After reaching mass volume of books equal to everything else I owned I stop buying them and started using my local libraries. Of course back then I was in King County WA ranked third in the nation which had everything I dreamed up in terms of books.
These days I have access to a network of 80 libraries and although not as vast as King county it’ll do and it keeps me honest in terms of actually reading them in a timely fashion, turning them in and not taking up every single living space in my house.
Yeah, we try to do that too. Also if we buy something and it's not one we're going to read over and over, we give it away. We keep a chest around filled with books to be adopted...although now they're occupying a few shelves and get given to a used bookstore/library/hospital/whatever and rotated out if they don't get adopted off the shelf.

I'm still cataloging my collection but once I have it in the database I think I can organize it better.
