PCOS

So I've had PCOS for a while now and it really hasn't affected me much. None of the really bad symptoms so I don't worry about it. However today my mother figured out that she has it and that's prob where I got it from. If thats what I have to look forward to I am going to make sure I work on this now while I can.

Excuse my ignorance, but...PCOS?

What's that, exactly?

Polycystic Overy syndrome. At my level its really not that bad and just means my period is really unregular. like once every 2/3 months. it all has to do with my hormones being out of balance. I'm hoping to prevent the later complications like facial hair, male pattern baldness, infertility diabetes and a couple more that i can't think of. All i need to do is lose like 50 lbs. which sounds easy but then its actually harder because of the disease. one complication is that i have a slow metabolism, and my fat cells are overactive. all in all its a big nuisance and my mother has unknowingly had it for years while i figured it out pretty quickly (i am so awesome I suggested it to my doctor)

would it help if you were on birth control?

yes but only to an extent. it will help me regulate my hormones so that I can lose weight and hopefully not be infertile. we shall see. I think I have a doctors appointment when we go back and my mother has something she wants to try.
