I played D and D for the first time in over two years tonight. It was with some techie guys from Benn's work, and while it was nice to be (quite literally) back in the game, it made me feel homesick, too. I'm realizing that playing DnD with some nerdy techies is NOT the same as playing with a bunch of people who live and breathe this stuff. I mean ( Read more... )

Very interesting gaming experience... I remember playing in games that were more roll oriented than role, but I try to stear clear of the completely CG gaming experience. Still, maybe if someone else DMs at some point, even a different game with the same group, you'll get a chance to role play. I'm keen to hear more about this game as it progresses!

And I AM spoiled, having played with you guys. Can you believe that the DM had to spend a lot of time trying to find a picture of the demon he was describing, instead of quickly sketching an amazing drawing of it? :-p
And there were still good moments. Notably, when my web trap went off on an orc, and I performed a coup de grace on it for 37 points of damage, which the DM laughed off... til I reminded him that his orc had to make a fort save DC 47 or die, which wiped the smile off of his face until he rolled a natural 20. Much amusement, numbers-wise, at least.

I can't imagine role playing like that. It's more roll playing really than role playing. I haven't played D&D in probably.... 5 years. Since I graduated from MTA. Every once and a while the Pagan group here talks about getting a game together but it hasn't happened yet unfortunately. Especially since I got used to playing with people like you, Mark, Ivy, and Josie where there would be a mutiny if we weren't allowed to play our characters exactly the way we wanted and have them be very quirky and different lol And rarely touch the dice because we spend more time in the taverns picking up people lol Ah those were the days! I hope next time you get to use more of the backstory and personality you've created for your character but I can understand the desire to play regardless.

Hee hee, "roll playing". That's awesome punnage. One of the campaigns I still remember the best was the first few times playing our "insane campaign". Your character had a wyvyrn familiar or something, didn't she? Shame she got crushed by a rock. And Mark's lawful good orc. And Rillakwick throwing crystal balls around. THATS the kind of DnD I like. Thats' what I remember.

Yeah, I think she did have a wyvyrn familiar. But she got split in half by a lizard guy's axe and then Ivy's character slipt in her brains. Grosest death ever. That was a very awesome game.
