Rambles for the New Year

Jan 02, 2007 08:12

Well, my most important new year's resolution is to lose more weight. I make this resolution every year, and yet somehow I am at my heaviest yet. i KNOW I CAN lose the weight, I lost 20 pounds one determined summer, and I kept it off for a year. Unfortunately, my subsequent depression and Jonathan's "I don't feel like eating in. Why don't I treat ( Read more... )

For a long time, my boy name was Liam. Then it became mine and Chris's boy name. When we broke up, I let it go to the wind. Also it seems to be gaining in popularity, and my kid WILL have an uncommon name. I liked being the only Corinne in the entire school. I've always loved the name Charlie, although I don't know if Mike would let me use it because of his associations with my DnD character. He could have cool nick-names, like Chase, and Chaz. Mike said that if he ever had a son he always thought he would name him Mark, which I vetoed because my family and I have extremely bad associations with that name. Plus it's as common as dirt. I also happened upon the name Rylan, which I rather like the sound of.

As for girls, I love the name Lily. It's lovely sounding, it's my favorite flower, and it's got that old world-y feel to it, without sounding like an old woman. I like Charlie as a girl's name too.

Charlie as a girl's name is fun. My cousin named her daughter Lilly. I think the extra L makes it stilly and foolish. One L is ok.

I always liked Lily, although all of my associations with the name are unpleasant fictional characters.

Variations on Lily that I like are Leela and Lila.

Oh, and on the weight thing, I was 160 at my heaviest too. I was down to 134 when I came home for Christmas, and now post holiday, I'm up to 140. Which isn't too bad. 135 is my goal average weight, meaning I can go 5 pounds in either direction and not get upset. Unfortunately I'm sick with a cold, so I can't get back to my eating/excercize regimine as soon as I would have liked. But I do have Dance Dance Revolution to add to my excercise regimine when I get better. Woo hoo.

You look good at this weight, I definitely wouldn't go any lower. Oh, and I just remembered that I really like the name Hazel for a girl, too. That's on my list. I'm not sure how Benn feels about it. I think he needs time to warm up to that one.

Hazel is on my list of names that can only be witches in my mind. Not in the bitchy sense. Literally witches, with broomsticks. Hazel would be a nice witch, though. Zelda is also on this list.

Maybe I'm a nerd, but forever and always Quentin will be my boy's name haha.

As for the weight thing... I'm not sold on the whole no carbs thing. Granted, I lost all my weight by accident, but I was definately eating carbs at the time.

I wish you luck though! Merry Holidays to you!

Everyone's metabolism works differently. My body happens to be highly sensitive to carbs *shrug* that's just what makes me gain weight. For other people it's fat, or basic bad eating habits.

Happy Holidays... I hear you enjoyed your present :)

Hee, hee! You mentioned ME in your post! Yes, indeed, baby names are a topic of discussion these days. Though we have yet to really come to any conclusions even as much as you and Benn have, oddly. We're still completely up in the air for a girl's name. I think it's because there are so many we like and none that specifically stand out to BOTH of us yet. But we've pretty much decided on our boy's name, which I will keep to myself for now. I just have to say that Will is also one of my absolute favorites and I find it interesting that you like it so much too. It's a definite contender. And I'm also trying to avoid the most popular names as well. I always hated being one of the "Carries", though my more rare spelling saved it for me. I would have changed it by now if not for that spelling. On the other hand, I want to make sure to avoid the trap of too unique spelling that no one can ever pronounce for my kids' names. It's a fine line. So much to be considered, especially when it's REAL ( ... )

I shall have you know that I have met several Elizabeths, and almost none of them have been bad people, especially when the shortened version is "Beth", which is why I like the name.

...okay, maybe a little bit with the Lizardbreath thing too. But mainly the positive associations. :-p

And I will admit, grudgingly, that Cadence is growing a little bit on me. It still isn't at the level of Alice, Charlotte, or Elizabeth, though.

Oh, here's a though, you could leave it at Elizabeth too and not shorten it at all. I've known a couple Elizabeths who didn't have any such nicknames and they were both lovely people.

Very true, but both Carol and I have noticed that if you don't give a nickname to a child who has a nicknameable name, then their school friends/teachers/whoever else will choose a nickname for them. I'd rather choose it up front than leave it to chance.
