Ugh. One of my credit card companies has been calling me every hour on the hour for the last week. Every day. It's getting a little old...no wait, a lot old. I talk with them on a daily basis, repeating the same thing over and over again...I can't make a payment until the middle of May, due to me being unemployed and uber-broke. No, I can't

You can tell them not to call you back. Then, if they do, there is legal things you can do back to them. You can also send them a "drop dead" letter, telling them not to contact you ever again. http://clarkhoward.com/topics/drop_dead_letter.html

Of course, if its still an active card, you may not want to do that.

And just an FYI, not that you didn't already probaby know this, but NEVER give out bank account (or related) info over the phone when you didn't place the call. EVER! You have no way of knowing who it really is on the other end of the phone, and what all they'll use that info for, including emptying the account, and then some.

Yup, I know not to give bank account info. Wouldn't that drop dead letter be against the law, you're evading a collection agency?

I'm going to get one of those phone recorder thingys and start recording the phone calls from collection agencies. I wonder if they will be MUCH nicer and not be harassing OR just hang up and not talk to me completely. I mean, you can tlak to me, but I"m recording it!

Actually, I believe by law you have to tell them that you are recording the conversation and right before we filed bankruptcy we started recording the calls from 5/3 about the car that was through them. They called 7 or 8 times a day, every day. So when we told them that we were recording the conversation, they said we had no right to do so and refused to talk to us ::snicker:: big loss. And they can record but we can't? Give me a break.

The laws vary by state, but yeah, here in California you have to tell them you are recording. They always have a statement that "Calls may be recorded for quality or training purposes." So yeah, if THEY can record so can we!

I'm tellin ya, where do these people get off trying to get money from you? Sheesh. ;) Just answer the phone and immediately say in a monotone, "You will get your money by mid-May. This is a recording. Goodbye" and hang up. Or answer in German or something. Spice up the calls a bit. Toying with credit companys could fun, you know? :)
