Cold and Flu, Chicken Soup and More?

May 30, 2006 12:31

Hi Everyone...

I have the flu.  Anyone who has wonderful flu-time recipes they want to post, feel free!  I so rarely get sick that I have no idea with these things. :(

Soups and teas and whatever else that have immune-boosting anything in them (or are just comfortable) would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
Kat :) *sneeze*

I have found that taking extra vitamins really has been helping. Also, zinc tablets are really good as well for helping the immune system.

On a food front - lots of garlic, chicken soup (I make a chinese one - you need to buy this strange packet of herbs though, which I have no idea how to describe), congee (I will post a recipe for this!!) and lots of water.

Peppermint tea and chamomile tea for soothing.

Chinese tea to help with the cleansing (be careful just before bed - has caffeine and can keep you up).

A Chilean trick taught to me by my old cleaner is to squeeze the juice of one lemon into a frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil. Throw in salt and heat until boiling. Drink when as hot as possible!! It sounds gross (I don't mind it, but I like salty lemon flavours) but it helps with the sore throat.

The Chinese say also avoid anything 'heaty' - pineapple, mandarins, oranges, chocolate, deep fried foods.
