preparing for a party

Dany had almost forgotten about the Redman Ball, but that was partly due to the fact that she couldn't go. Which was fine, truly, as she was so tired from getting up at all hours to care for the infant Alysanne, that she had no energy to want to go dancing and socializing ( Read more... )

Billy hadn't forgotten about the ball and he was still glad that Dany didn't mind him going even though she couldn't. He'd promised Jane to at least spend a few minutes there, so he would. Probably a bit more but not long. He might not be as tired as he knew Dany was, but he was feeling the interruption of sleep too ( ... )

It took Dany a moment to realize that she was being watched. She paused in folding a freshly cleaned cloth diaper over her arm (because Gods, the soiled clothing never seemed to end. She was almost beginning to feel bad for all the trips Billy was making to the compound) and looked over her shoulder at him.

A tired sort of smile graced her features while she took him in. "My, don't you look handsome." Motherhood, she found rather quickly, suited her in a way nothing really had before, and it left this kind of glow about her that shone through even the dark circles under her eyes. "Should I be jealous that you're getting so dressed up for another woman?" she teased lightly, sticking out her tongue playfully.

He smiled back at her. "Do I? Perhaps you need a closer look then." He didn't feel all that handsome, but on the other hand he wasn't going to contradict her if she liked what she saw.

"And if you come over here I'll show you why you shouldn't be jealous." God, she was beautiful... He'd always heard that cliché about pregnant women having this glow about them but with Dany the glow seemed to have come after. It was there now and he wanted nothing but being near it, take care of her so she'd keep glowing like that.

She finished folding the diaper calmly, setting it down on a pile of other clean ones on a shelf before walking over to Billy.

She ran the flat of her hands smoothly down his lapel, feeling the extra smooth fabric beneath her palms. "You're coming home to me," she replied simply. "I doubt any other woman on the island is so lucky."
