At thirty-two, I have finally mastered poaching an egg, thanks to Smitten Kitchen's pictorial tutorial. I love poached eggs and have always failed at making them, so I am quite pleased tonight ( Read more... )

I love - LOVE - poached eggs. SO DELICIOUS.

You sound like you're doing amazingly well. I am so impressed, and happy for you. I think when you start to be free of something - whatever that thing was - that's when you realize for the first time the true degree to which you were burdened before. At least, that's always been the case for me.

Oh man, YES. And everyone has always said "but they're so easy," and then I would go screw them up. So tonight is a major victory, as far as I am concerned. :D

It's really incredible. Food is still occasionally frustrating - right now, I can't eat tuna fish, which was such a staple for me, and I miss it. But I don't *mind* missing it the way I would have. I think you are very right - it's only till the (literal or metaphorical) weight starts to lift that you realize how heavy it was. Thank you for the good thoughts!
