Curious if you have tried other forms of medication for the ADD?

My god-daughter was prescribed Adderal, and her dad shortly after - the doc noticed he had some of the same behavioural symptoms and tested him... the positive results explain a lot about him. They gave him Adderal and (I think) Warfarin. It really seems to help him.

Do you have any knowledge of these two medications and their use for ADD? Do you think you could suggest them to the psych and see how that goes?

Also, is there any way you can get a psych who treats you and Sweetie with basic human courtesy? It sounds like you've got a real *prizewinner* right now... it is bad when the doc is rude or disimissive to the patient or spouse of the patient. 8(

Warfarin is a blood thinner with no use in ADD. I wonder what else he might have been prescribed? Perhaps clonidine which is used both for the heart and for ADD...

Adderall is in the same class of stimulants as Ritalin, so if he's getting pushback for the one, he'd probably get pushback for the other. That said, some of the stimulants work better for folks than others, so trying more than one of the class can be useful (Concerta and Dexedrine are also in the class)

(end pharmacist babbling)

What's pushback?

Pushback - is when you are getting the impression that the person you're talking to does NOT want to do what you want them to do

it is really hard to find a doctor who knows how to deal with Add, especially in adults. so many seem to think that it magically goes away when you turn 18.

Oh, my god yes. It's even harder to find one who is willing to consider a "new" diagnosis. So frustrating! I don't care if their eventual answer is, no this is not your problem, but I want them to at least CONSIDER IT rather than jumping to the categorical conclusion that since I didn't fail out of school, attention issues must not be a problem for me at all.

Lessee. My monster crew has been in ritalin, concerta, celexa, and a few other things that I can't remember. Now that they're adults, they've managed to self control a bit better but they, none of them, react well to the drugs.
Hoping that your doc finds something that will benefit.

I do appreciate the emotional support. It helps that I don't know anything about this field other than direct experience, so hearing other people's experiences helps.

I don't know how well they work for ADD, but both Welbutrin and Celexa have worked very well for me for dealing with Anxiety and slowing down my thoughts enough that I can think clearly and calmly.

Not sure if they're on our existing list of meds, but we'll keep them in mind. Sweetie seems interested in Vyvanse, since it's something that lasts longer and doses a person regularly through the day rather than expecting the taker to remember when to take it and how much.

They're both anti-depressants, so if you were looking specifically for ADD meds they would not have come up at all.
