Anthropological texts about the societies surrounding various computer languages? I mean the uses and impacts of the languages and how various terms are used in various situations. I would totally read that.
Less on computer languages and more on the whole OS. I suppose that might include a certain number of programming languages, since Unix and Linux were both instrumental in the development of some of them.
You know, etymology of command codes and structures would be useful too. Sort of like The Jargon File, but more in-depth.
Does anyone in scholastic circles actually think about such things? Or is the field of Operating Systems considered too new to be considered in anthropological terms?
