Low lean carb?

Does anyone or has anyone tried to do low carb after surgery? I am over 2 years out and having such a hard time getting to goal weight. I am like between 120-140 pound lost, back and forth for a year! I need to do something, I feel like if I could just lose 20 pounds, I would find the motivation to do better and drop the last 60 pounds. I've tried ( Read more... )

I'm currently 1 yr post op VSG - as I get closer to goal ( HW was 420, currently hovering around 201-205), it's freaking hard as hell to lose weight. I do have to do low carb to see any substantial weight loss, otherwise I creep along at 2-4 lbs a month ( ... )

Congrats on your loss!

Do you eat lean meats or fatty meats? What do you keep your carb and calories at?

You don't mention what your wt stats are- pre-op, current, goal. Also BMI. It makes it a bit more difficult to advise. Success with WLS is losing 50% of your excess wt. From what you have posted, you are a success.
I am 2 years out post VSG, my wt loss stopped at just above a normal BMI. My goal was to cure my two co-morbidities, be more active and fit into normal sized clothes. I have achieved all that. I stopped weighing myself on a regular basis, kept to a balanced food intake, no processed, no low fat, no counting carbs. My VSG gives me good restriction. I saw no reason to struggle to a normal number, when my body was where I wanted it.
I did find that if I increased my water intake, my wt loss did pick up.

Honestly, I think that because I was so focused on getting protein in after surgery that I did low carb for about the first year and attribute much of my weight loss to that. I think it's the best way to lose weight and anytime I reach the high point of my desired weight range, I low carb for a couple of weeks to get it back down.
