I had surgery there in May with Dr. Johnson. I assume he is having RNY because he is staying over night and those are normally performed on Monday. You will be able to stay. The rooms are really nice and big. There is a reclining chair in each room and a beanch type couch thing on the wall in front of the hospital bed. He will be on the 4th floor after surgery.

The nurses are great. Lynn is the Bariatric Nursing Co-ordinator. Terry is a certified bariatric nurse and the other nurses are great too. You may have to ask for his pain medication. They only give it if you ask. I don't know where you live but there are support group meetings every 3rd wednesday in room 109 (I think that's the right room). If he is feeling up to it then you should try to come on the 21st at 7 pm. There is always a good discussion.

Good luck to you both. If you have any other questions then let me know and I will try to answer or put you in touch with someone that can.

I just realized that next monday is 2 days after surgery. Forget the support group... we'd love to see you both in November, it's on the 18th at 7 pm.

Interesting observation about your breakdown points. One of the mantras of the Quit-Smoking crowd is "Beware the Threes". Apparently the sticky points where people tend to relapse back into smoking after they've quit is on the Threes: 3 days quit, 3 weeks, 3 months, and 3 years.

So I'd say your mileage may vary, but... Beware the Threes.

Funny. I just started smoking again at 3 years quit and 3 months post-op. I also had an emotional breakdown at 3 weeks post-op.

RE: being emotional. Yes, I am sixteen months out and I STILL have breakdowns and anxiety attacks that I never had (ok never really had) before surgery. Welcome to our new reality, i guess. :)
