Case of the blahs.

Today is my one month surgiversary. As of Monday, I'd lost 40 lbs. since having my lap RNY. As of this morning, I've regained an entire pound. This is distressing to me because I've been losing (on average) a pound a day. I know what I eat and how many calories I take in. Tuesday I got my first post-surgery Depo shot (I know many people swear ( Read more... )

How often are you weighing yourself? Weight fluctuates and I've gotten used to dropping a pound, weighing the next day and being back up half a pound or more, and then having it drop again. My therapist said women have something like a three-pound range where weight can fluctuate. I wouldn't worry about it; you're down an incredible amount already. I only lost about 25lbs my first month--I'm down 40 now and I'm over two months out.

just my $0.02...

I've been weighing myself twice a week - Monday mornings and then either Thursday/Friday mornings. Yesterday, I was down 1/2 a pound from Monday. Then today, I was up a full pound from Monday. I think I'm most worried about being off the Triam/HCTZ, since I blew up the last time I was off it. Even though I know that's all fluid/water weight, it's still upsetting to see the scale go in the wrong direction when I'm eating so little and moving more, you know?

Oh, believe me, I totally understand. Weighing myself is the one thing I'm compulsive over; I do it every day and I really shouldn't be, but I haven't managed to stop it.

I got really frustrated because the scale didn't move/went up half a pound for an entire week, and it was all water weight--I sort of got my period and I was bloated and unhappy, so I know where you're coming from.

*hugs* good luck on everything. It sounds like you're doing all the right things; I'll keep my fingers crossed you continue to get healthy!

FYI-I weigh myself daily, but only measure my progress on a monthly basis. Also, my weight fluctuates 5lbs from day to day and that is normal for any menstruating female. It's ok to weigh yourself, but dont measure your results on a daily basis.

The most important metric to measure yourself by is vitamins, protein, water, and exercise, because if you are consistent with those, you WILL have your long term results. Of course, after the honeymoon calories are super important too as it's easy to go over calories. Set yourself up for good results and they show up, not always in the time frame you thought. I was a slllooow loser.

It happens. I gain and lose a phantom pound or two here and there now and again. It's frustrating but it's just a part of the process, I think. If you're doing the right things it'll move down again soon.

Huh? Diabetes is supposed to be cured within 2 years, not 1 month ( ... )

Did I get the statistic wrong? All of my doctors kept acting like I wouldn't have the diabetes post surgery.

Thanks for the tips and the pep talk!

Well, it doesn't go away immediately post surgery. Aim to be off your medication after 2 years and STAY off them. You have to give the surgery some time to work. It seems like since we wait so long to HAVE surgery that we should get our results instantly, but it really does take a full 2 years (more for some) to get the maximum result with RNY, and even longer for lap band.

About the weight loss/gain thing. As women, we will constantly fluctuate for no reason at all, at least not that we know of. A pound gain is nothing ununusual, something you will probably shed in a day or two. I know it brings on panic, but don't let it get to you Example: I have been working graveyards so my food consutmption has been AWFUL. Chips, soda, chocolate, anything to stay awake. Total college food. I went to weight myself this afternoon and I lost four pounds in one day. I got excited for about a milisecond then I realized it was an unhealthy loss and the rational part of my brain had to kick in and take charge. Don't let that emotional part of your brain get to you.

I am sorry that you are so physically uncomfortable! hugs!

By the way, at a month out, I was miserable and about to go into the hospital. I would say that the first three months were the hardest. Hang in there.

Sounds to me like you're doing great, getting off the meds and losing 39 pounds in one month! Wowzer!!! I was once in an eating disorder hospital (compulsive overeater) and they taught us the #1 rule: DO NOT WEIGH EVERYDAY. Not even once a week. Weigh at the doctor's office when you go. Of course, I'm pre-surgery so I'd probably be weighing all the time if I thought I was losing something, ha ha! Good luck and I hope your itchiness goes away.

Yeah, I was weighing twice a week but I think I'm going to cut back to once a week, same time every week.
