Supplementation post-gastric bypass

When I read that post-wls folks aren't taking any vitamins and supplements, or not on a regular basis, it worries me ALOT. It also amazes me that folks who are new to my in-person support group who had surgery someplace other than the OSU Medical Center, don't even know that they have to take vitamins ( Read more... )

I have actually been thinking about posting a similar post to this. I too have been concerned about people not taking their vitamins. I also use a 7 day pill reminder and stick to the same pill taking schedule.

The only thing I would add to your post is that Vitamin World and other similar stores are great places to check out for getting Vitamins at good prices.

You’re so right, and I know this. Thank you. Thank you so much. For reminding me that I’m important. And for making me realize that, like every other time in my life, I’ve put myself last. Self-care has always been the least important thing to me and is the first thing to go when I’m struggling. I’m scared and I’ve started sabotaging myself already.

I’m going to go next week for my bloodwork and make an appointment for my three month follow-up ( a month late… =/ ). That way I can know exactly what I’m missing and exactly what I need. I’m also going to find a local support group (I haven’t been to a single one) and go. Because I need help and support and it’s okay for me to acknowledge that.

I had this surgery to get healthy and extend my life. And I need to remember that requires work and effort.

Thank you, again.

AMEN SISTER! I got careless with my vitamins and protein for a long while, and when I had my pre-ops done for my last plastics, there were significant problems. A lot of my levels were fine, but my hematocrit (has to do with blood count and iron levels) was 25...normal is 40. That put me in a "severely anemic" category, and while there is some thought that I'm bleeding internally somewhere (I'll find out after Tuesday when I have upper and lower endoscopy), there is also the fact that what red blood cells I *do* have are incredibly tiny, which means I've been anemic for a WHILE. So...here is my new protein and vitamin regimen ( ... )

I agree about the 7-day pill sorter. I have the same type, that has 4 containers for each day, and it's GREAT. It's really helped me stay vigilant about taking my vitamins since surgery.
