Just dropping through with a few things:

1. Okay, so I'm about 14k into my fic for i_reversebang. It's a beast, is all I'm saying. Actually, scratch that, I'm going to keep talking--would anyone be interested in beta reading when I'm done? It's probably going to be about 20k, maybe more (but under 30k, I think--I hope) of Arthur/Eames fantasy AU, where Eames is ( Read more... )

HI BB HI <3

1) I would totally be up for betaing! I'm going out of town shortly so my net time will be inconsistent, but I'll definitely have time to edit, especially if posting isn't till July. :)

2) AO3 is awesome! I like the format, I like the search functionality, I especially love the download features, because I can easily create files that allow me to store the fic on my ereader of choice. It's also great for long fic, without LJ's posting limit.

Hi bb! I'd love for you to beta. I'm also going out of town shortly--so...I don't know. So that's something I'm doing. But as for betaing--I use googledocs, so if that works for you I can give you access when there are fewer falling objects in the doc than there are currently. I'm lonnetre, over in google. Otherwise I can send you a word document or something, just let me know where to send things.

One of the things I most like about AO3 is the search functionality and the fact that you can wade through so much fic that might not otherwise be in one place--lj can make it hard to find what you're looking for, especially if you aren't participating in the fandom real time (i.e. following whatever the relevant communities would be). On the other hand, having so much in one place can make it feel like you've seen everything in the fandom, when there is still a lot scattered elsewhere around the internet, and I'm not a huge fan of the 1000-work limit.

googledocs is perfect! I'm lariagwyn [at] gmail so feel free to send me anything whenever you're ready (feel free to email/chat etc too). :)

I agree! It's easier to find things sometimes but it's hard to look through everything. I tend to subscribe to favorite authors and also occasionally browse through, say, the Avengers tab. :)

On my phone, but: *builds a fire, sends up smoke signals* I'd love to beta for you. Do you have my email?

Also, I love that AO3 let's you download fic, especially because work is hugely limiting our internet now, as it means I can download things onto my nook and read whenever. I use it as a backup/archive, posting my fic on lj and also posting it there. I also really loved their ToS when I signed up - it seemed very progressive and pro-creator.

I don't think I have your e-mail. But send it along it whatever mode you're comfortable (except smoke signals--it's raining, here, don't think they'll make it) and I'll get things sorted when the fic is a little further along. I'm lonnetre at gmail, which I think I said somewhere above.

I don't have any sort of ereader and usually just leave a window open when I want to read a fic on my laptop without internet access, but it still seems like AO3 is more good than bad. I will have to get myself on the registration waitlist, I guess. That's another thing that's been putting me off--though it's my own fault for not adding myself to the list sooner, it's like not getting in line because it's too long, but the fact of the matter is, the line's still going to be long when you come back.

I see you already got some volunteers, but if you need anyone else I'd be happy to help.

I'm kind of torn between 'too many cooks spoil the broth' and 'the more the merrier' (I can only express myself in cliches) but I kind of think that I might like you on to help with plot stuff, if that's okay? I'm not used to working with multiple betas, but at the very least I'd like to hear how different people respond to the story, since it is a little outside my wheelhouse. I have your e-mail, I think, so when it feels ready I'll invite you into the doc as well. Thanks for offering!

No problem!

Betaing for plot seems to have become a specialty of mine, so I'm glad to help in whatever capacity you'd like.

Oh, and btw, I saw that you're on the registration waitlist for AO3. I happen to have an invite code that will allow you signup and bypass the waiting period if you're interested.

I don't use Ao3 to archive my stories personally, but it's quite readable and I do leave kudos and follow writers on it.

2. I loveeee A03. I've put all my favourite fic on there. I didn't bother to archive the things I hate, because I don't want anyone to find that crap anyway. But yeah. It's pretty magical. It's super easy to add tags and stuff. I'm not fussed over the kudos drama, but I can understand why people are upset about it.

What was/is the kudos drama? I don't know anything about anything.

juliandahling May 28 2012, 04:35:11 UTC
It's drama in the sense that some (quite a few) people HATE kudos and want to see them burn and die. A handful of people I know refuse to use the archive because of them. The way it's been explained to me is that people don't want a "like" Facebook-esque button, because it's something people will do instead of commenting.

Oh, okay. I have heard this--I guess that the other side is that people will give kudos when they normally would've just lurked, because it is easier than commenting. Anyway! Thanks for filling me in.

Don't worry, I think I got plenty of beta offers already (: So I should be all taken care off, and hopefully you'll enjoy the fic when it eventually makes its why out of googledocs and into the world.

I don't know of any sort of hockey newsletter--I'm awful at finding that sort of stuff, for one, and for two I wouldn't say I'm really 'in' the hockey fandom so much as I read it when I stumble upon it, usually on AO3. Also, one of the pairings I like seems to be less popular this season--I could probably do research on the actual players and find out they had been traded or something, but that would involve work. Anyway, I think you might just need to tag stalk? Or start a newsletter yourself! But that would be...work.

I like Duncs/Seabs--there are a few fics for that in my recs post (here). But Toews/Kane has been growing on me. I haven't really branched out into other pairings yet--the problem with not knowing the 'canon' really at all is that I don't have a clear idea of what to expect from character dynamics, and relationship dynamics really make or break a pairing for me...though I can't really articulate which dynamics I like.
