Daphne looked at the piece of parchment. Dare chess. Well this certainly had possiblities. She smirked. She frowned a little at the fact that they had to play with a muggle chess set. Really. She shook her head. She re-read the parchment. She wasn't the most skilled chess player though, so that was definitely something she would have to learn, and fast.
"Well, I think we should get going," Neville remarked, standing up and looking around. "Chess set, chess set." He spotted them on the table and came back, putting the note back where it had come from and picking up the set. "Well...I think we should start playing..."
He opened the box and took out the pieces, then set them in place on top, carefully, using his wand to attach them, so that they wouldn't get knocked aside. He didn't want to risk the game from a knocked board. "Who wants to play?" he asked the room in general.
Romilda sat quietly in one of the armchairs. She had read the note, but hadn't spoken up. She had been rather quiet since the thing had happened betwene her and Harry. Well, actually nothing had happened. They had been drunk and things got out of hand, that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
When Neville asked around the room for somebody to play, she sat up a little straighter. "I'll play." She softly said, getting up.
Neville flushed when Romilda offered, then nodded and stood up, carrying his board haphazardly and coming over to sit beside her. He put it on the arm of the chair and looked across at her, taking two of the pieces, one in each hand, a black and a white.
"Which hand would you like?" he said, offering both hands towards her.
"Left." She pointed at his left hand. She wasn't terribly good at chess, but at least she knew how to play. It had been a while since she had played, but she supposed she hadn't forgotten about it.
This challenge was more up George's alley than the last. Cleaning had never been his strong suit. He preferred to be the one making the mess. But chess was different. Sure, it required a bit of patience, but he'd never minded the time it took. Fred, on the other hand, had declared the game rubbish from the start. Why move pieces on a little board when you could be out doing the real thing? So, he'd played with Lee and Ron, of course. Ron usually beat him, but occasionally he'd win (usually when Fred wasn't looking over his shoulder the entire time, thrilling them with sardonic commentary.)
He smiled to himself, watching Romilda and Neville in their game for a moment before taking a seat and shouting out, "Oi! Who wants to give this a go?"
