I get my IUD on Wednesday! I went with Mirena because of the bad cramping I get during my periods. So excited. I also donated $30 to PP because I had it with me and well, they do good things for people.

I don't want them either. Kids just aren't for me. And now I won't even have to think about them until I'm 31 yayyyy.

Me too! I've known for years that I don't want to have kids so I'm really glad that now I can have a long term bc option.

If you get an IUD, is there a time where you can have kids or does it permanently disable you? I'm pretty sure I've heard there's a higher risk factor than other birth control methods, right? But it's not intended for that? I haven't done my research, haha. (Sorry if this message is a little loopy sounding, I just got back from the hospital for a tonsillectomy and I'm reading through LJ in a bit of a daze.)

Nope! It lasts for five years but say I decide I want kids 2 years from now, I can have it taken out and will still be able to get pregnant as if I'd never had it in. The risks are the same as with any other bc except there's a really slim chance it can puncture your uterus, but there's a 1 in 3000 chance of that happening.
