Globes and Critics' Choice: The Game is On!

Dec 16, 2010 18:17

The awards season has officially started as the nominees for the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics' Choice Awards were announced in these days.
Here they are my predictions (you can read the full lists just by clicking the two links above, I can't post them entirely for limit exceed problems).

68th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Best Motion Picture - Drama
Inception
Brilliant and absolutely innovating, this film not only has blow up our tiny and fragile minds (that's quite a constant in Nolan's works) but has perfectly succeded in an extremely difficult task: have the total approval of both critics and audience. The only other nominated movie I've already seen is "The Social Network", which in my opinion deserves too the award.

Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
The Tourist (pending)
I've not seen it yet, so I can't judge it. I chose it because the only nominated movie I've already seen is "Alice In Wonderland"; I liked very much but I don't think it is worth a Globe, especially if compared to other Burton movies that should have deserved it. I'm also curious to watch the other nominated films, so this prediction can wait.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network)
This is an anomaly, because the other four actors nominated are mostly among my favourites (especially Ryan Gosling), while Eisenberg isn't. But I haven't seen the other performances yet (though I know they must be terrific), and on the other hand this young man did an amazing job with his personification of Mark Zuckerberg. Anyway, I support all of them.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Natalie Portman (Black Swan)
I haven't seen any of the movies yet. I chose her because I know she's a very good actress and, judging from the trailers of Aronofsky's film, she has certainly done a great performance. I think that also Michelle Williams or Nicole Kidman may bring the award home.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
Johnny Depp (The Tourist)
He's my favourite actor, he's nominated twice in this category, and I think the Mad Hatter wasn't his best performance.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
Anne Hathaway (Love And Other Drugs)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Andrew Garfield (The Social Network)
If you're a regular reader of this journal you know that I really fancy this young man, and his amazing performance in this great film made me love him even more.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech)
This film hasn't been released yet here in Italy, but she's one of my favourite actresses and I'm pretty sure she made a good job (and the movie seems very good).

Best Director - Motion Picture
Christopher Nolan (Inception)

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture
Alan Sorkin (The Social Network)

Best Original Song - Motion Picture
"I See The Light" written by Alan Merken, Glenn Slater; performed by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi (Tangled)
I haven't seen this film yet, but this song almost made me cry when I listened to it because it's just that classic Disney song that makes you remember of your childhood.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture
Inception (Hans Zimmer)
There's no competition here: Hans Zimmer is THE Composer, and he gave his best in this score.

Best Television Series - Drama
Mad Men
I bet "Boardwalk Empire" is amazing too, but I still have to see it.

Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy
Glee
I prefer "Big Bang Theory" or "30 Rock", they're well-written and more entertaining, while "Glee" sometimes lacks of a coherent storyline and a good screenplay. But this year I hope it wins something, because this is a series that brought a revolution in television and made millions of people discover good music and amazing artists. This year in particular it deserves to bring home as much prizes as possible because it introduced the "masses" to serious problems barely treated in other tv series, the ones of homophobia and high-school bullying, and developed them in a very original way, with the whole Dave Karofsky/Kurt Hummel affair.

Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
The Pillars of the Earth

Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Ian McShane (The Pillars of the Earth)

Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Claire Danes (Temple Grandin)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy
Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)
Sheldon Cooper will always be the best.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy
Tina Fey (30 Rock)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama
Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
I'm quite obsessed with this series right now, but I also support Steve Buscemi and Michael C. Hall.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama
Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television
Chris Colfer (Glee)
This guy is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. I'm pretty sure that him and Darren Criss are the only reason why I keep watching this show.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture made for Television
Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire)

The Critics Choice nominees' are basically the same, so are my predictions. Now, what do you think of the nominees? What are your predictions?
