Fan Project (mini): Dalmatian

So this is a bit different to the norm. Usually I'll just post a pic of something, but this time it's going to be image heavy, a little step-by-step of a package I put together for my current k-pop bias, 6-member boygroup Dalmatian. Since I haven't really got any new art to share with you I thought I'd just post a bunch of photos so you get an idea of how I put together a mini package to show my support for guys who live 11hrs away by plane.

I'll just start off by saying I'm not fond of doing things half-assed. Anyone can write a card or letter, I know that to stand out the best thing is to go to some effort. I wanted to make some cards for the boys, as well as send then some sweets and write them a card to read as a group. As I got started, the first thing I did was some fanart to turn into cards. I chose the Chosun Sports photoshoot as a reference, since it's one of my favourites.

L-R: Youngwon, Jeesu, Inati, Daniel, Dari and DayDay.

Keeping it simple, I chibified them and came up with the following:

YOUNGWON

JEESU

INATI

DANIEL

DARI

DAYDAY

These were a lot of fun to colour and none of them took very long. The end result was something I was happy with, so after I got to work I printed them all out and set about mounting them on some card. They were cut out, pasted onto black card, cut out again, pasted onto the spotted background, which was pasted to the main black card. If that makes any sense.

After taking this photo I also added their names in hangeul in the same way; printed out, layered on card in the same way as the images... and just like on the envelopes:

Instead of just using a marker to colour the spots in on the envelope, like a masochist I sat there and cut and glued each individual one. But the end result looked absolutely great. I soon had six envelopes for six fanart cards. With the backs of the cards looking very black and bare, I broke the monotony there by adding yet another version of the boys. I drew little chibis, only about three inches tall each.

And quickly coloured them with my pencils.

I didn't get a photo of the backs of the cards, but I cut them out, pasted them in the bottom right hand corners of the cards and wrote a little personalised message to each of the boys. Then, after putting them all in their respective envelopes, they were done. Instead of writing a letter, I opted for a card since I'd found a perfect one.

Obviously the 'saranghae' did not come on the card. I still had 3D hangeul stickers I had bought on my Seoul trip and decided the empty space on the card was the perfect place to put it. Later, as an afterthought, I also added the hangeul for 'Dalmatian' underneath it. My card was written in English--I do not have confidence in my very limited Korean to attempt it, and I decided DayDay and Daniel, who are both fluent, could simply translate.

With all cards safely tucked away, it was time to make it pretty. I had found gift-wrapping that was perfect for this sort of thing and had impulsively bought it. I do not regret it for a moment.

All wrapped up:

The reason it seems bulky is because I also threw in a couple of bags of sweets for the boys to enjoy.

Then without further ado, it went into a box and into the mail.

It's not unusual for me to go all out on gifts for people I adore--even if they're only small gifts, and even if the people happen to be Korean idols. Dalmatian have always been good to me and have always shown me appreciation for my work, I love to make things for them and will continue to do so ^^
I'm not sure if these kinds of post will be a regular thing. I find it kind of interesting to do posts like this since I'm often proud of my work. I guess we'll see if I'm ever enthusiastic enough to take that many pictures again ^^
