Somewhere far, far midnight, someone is making the no good horrible decision to press a few buttons, which is why the following wound up sent to Romeo's phone:

"--bugger." Scrambling. "Why'd it have to be a chznk'f metal?"

Thunk.

"Music is really loud. 'm gonna sleep now."

Clatter.

End message.

Romeo had, for once, listened to radio the night before, so he had some sense of the context of the message when he found it the next morning. Some, because it still didn't make an overabundance of sense.

"Arthur, hello," he said ringing back. "Did you mean to call me to tell me you needed sleep, or have the phones gone berserk again?"

Or just Arthur's poor Blackberry.

"Charming broadcast, by the way. I think the squirrels have it in for you. I'll see you later."

If Arthur's poor Blackberry was sentient, it would hate him fiercely for all the buttonmashing. And the shaking. Let's not forget about the shaking.

"I did not call you," he said, once he'd walked through that entire circus again.

He was going to need someone to keep his Blackberry far, far away from him on radio nights.

"Yes, you did," Romeo contradicted. "Something about metal and music being too loud. And the sleep bit."

He leaned back against his headboard. "You don't remember at all?"

It had taken some time, but thanks to Reno's aid, Arthur had managed.

There were three whole pictures of Leto Atreides wrangling flamingoes in the park that he had sent to Romeo.

And a text message.

Miss us yet?

It took Romeo a good five minutes to stop laughing enough to text back.

Immensely. Why are pink birds attacking Leto?

He ... possibly could have been more concerned, but he figured if it were a real invasion, Arthur wouldn't be texting.

If it was a real invasion, there would have been more swords and less use of a phone, most likely.

Lady Alice seems to have coined it as a sport. I don't think live birds were what Leto expected.

Romeo's reply was to the point.

Would you?

Ino had an awesome hat, and hadn't really said even hi to Romeo for a while, and so she was going to text him just for fun.

i have the best hat ever, you would laugh. or think it's cute. looots of people have them. fandom is being awesome this month, did you know?

And then she totally sent him a picture of her awesome, awesome hat.

If nothing else, Ino figured it'd give him something to grin about.

Romeo's phone beeped, and he laughed and saved the image to his album before texting back.

"Hi! It's me!" Because if he didn't know her voice then he was absolutely hopeless, really. Also: she was trying to be cheerful and chirpy here. No need to worry him after the fact, really. "How've you been lately? What's new and exciting? There's not a lot going on 'round here, but um-Fandom went kinda weird for the weekend? It might've got you? I know the weird sometimes does outside of the island. But, anyway, it wasn't too fun. Everyone's okay though and I thought you'd want to know."

Ino hesitated, then: "Bye."

Ino wasn't sure how serious the weird fog was but she was trying to get better at keeping people in the loop. Which explained the text she sent out Wednesday morning.

There's strange fog outside and people who go out in it get weird. I haven’t gone out but radio says it’s pretty widespread. Just a heads up--I don't know how serious it is.

It looked silly written out like that but she hit send anyway. They deserved to know, even if it made her feel ridiculous.

It was fog. Weirded out by fog. Ugh.
