And so it was that after a good party, a last bout in the Salle, a frantic trip to the post office to send off most of his boxes (and why was overnight, cross-universe shipping to Tokyo so expensive? It was a good thing Romeo didn't care about money or he'd be rather peeved), a quick visit to the church where he never spent nearly as much time as ( Read more... )

Jen, for lack of knowing how else to do these things, had shown up in uniform, an uncertain smile on her face, standing like she wasn't sure to be at ease or attention and one arm twitching like she wanted to salute.

"Take care of my roomie for me, will you?"

[OOC: So gonna be slow until later, but had to tag in.]

"Of course, Jen," Romeo said, standing straighter in the face of the uniform and the twitching arm. "And with her to take care of me, I think we both may even make it through."

"Are you on your way out as well?"

"Not until tomorrow," Jen replied, "but yeah, it's time for me to go too."

She glanced back toward the town and smiled. "We had a good run here. Good memories." Some bad ones, too, but that wasn't the important part.

"It was a good eighteen months," Romeo agreed. "Easier than real life. We ... we always won, here."

He was getting oddly philosophical, and he tried to shake past it.

"Are you going back to work?" he asked, taking in the uniform and making a guess from a few things Dojima had mentioned.

"Sort of. I'm not going back to my time, but I'll be in the same line of work. Just nine hundred and eighty-five years earlier." Jen glanced down at her uniform, then gave him a self-conscious grin. "Just seemed like the kind of gesture I should make to say goodbye."

"It looks good on you, even if it is a millennium ahead of its time," Romeo said, and grinned because he could say things like that here and they were almost normal.

"I'm going to Tokyo to study while Yurika works, and then back to Verona in two years or so. Or so we've planned."

"Plans are good," Jen said, casting a glance over at Dojima, "but they're not everything. Just make sure you guys enjoy yourselves, okay? You've been good for each other."

"I know," Romeo said, echoing the glance. "And I mean to keep being good for her, as long as she'll let me."

"Good. I'd hate to have to make a trip out there for the express purpose of getting in your face about treating her badly," Jen said, and for once it was actually a joke. If it came down to that, she knew Dojima was perfectly capable of getting in Romeo's face herself. "You'll be back for homecoming, right?"

"You couldn't keep us away," Romeo promised. "Could I talk you into promising me a dance then?"

"You know how I said plans were overrated?" Jen asked, a brighter smile creeping across her face. "Sometimes they're not, and I'll make sure you're on the schedule for that."

"Fantastic," Romeo said, with his own bright grin. He moved his shoulders, a little awkwardly, and said, "Would you accept a hug while you're in uniform?"

"Uniformed hugs are the best kind," Jen said, holding her arms out. "They're very official."

Okay, her sense of humor still wasn't all it could be, but she tried.

"Then I'll consider myself officially hugged," Romeo said, and gave Jen an extra squeeze for being the best roommate for Yurika ever and putting up with some blond boy wandering in and out of her room at all hours. "Farewell, Jen. Take care."

"You too, Romeo." Jen gave him an extra squeeze right back, her way of apologizing for being irritated with said wandering at first, even if she'd kept that pretty well to herself. "Enjoy Tokyo, good luck, and have a great time, both of you."
