With all due respect to Neil Gammon, George R R Martins' fans might be more forgiving of a four year wait if he didn't end every chapter with a bleeding cliff hanger!

I should have followed my first impulse and thrown Game of Thrones across the room first mention of hideous heraldry. (Grey dire wolf on a field of ice? That's gonna be so easy to make out by torch light, and pray tell what posture is the beast in? Standing, sitting, rampant dormant, lifting a leg?)But no I kept reading and now I'm well and truly hooked.
