Professional, no. Surprisingly similar to home, however...That is something I can say for it. In a way, however, it does not surprise me. Students will be students, and be dedicated to some level of gossip.
Not that I entirely approve of it, of course. The rumors do not do anyone any credit, even if there are some tidbits of information scattered among them.
That doesn't mean we should post gossip officially for everyone to see. It's unimportant and I'd like to hear more about politics or actual news that's going on. Gossip doesn't matter to SeeD ... or it shouldn't.
And is there a way one can make this request officially known?
I share that opinion on hearing more about news, instead of gossip; that can easily be left within the classroom after hours, instead of on a newsletter meant to represent this school.
I might talk with the Headmaster or the Commander about it, if there's a way to do that through official channels. It also doesn't look like there are any off-worlders on the staff at all, which doesn't seem very fair...
It's not supposed to be a representative of Garden and SeeD though. At least I don't think it is.
It's just a newsletter for us cadets and, I guess, the SeeD who are stationed here too.
It's not always supposed to be just news and there's nothing wrong with having a section for gossip. They're pretty important for most social things from what I've seen.
If I wanted to hear gossip I'd just listen in in the cafeteria, and even if you do need a place for gossip there's no need to make up wild speculation about things!
Even gossip can provide useful or interesting information, even if you do want to start charging 1000 gil per exclaimation mark. In this case, it's mostly useless, but there were some items of interest.
Mentions of the new societies, good for team building and camaraderie. A large snake in the training centre, a suggestion to keep our eyes open and, presumably, report anything we see. T-Rexaur population decline - I guess some of the "off-worlders" are tough enough to take them out, giving us a picture of what our cadets are capable of even this early in their studies.
Those things aren't useless, but things like 'A cadet was out with a guy!' are, and there's no discrimination at all between what's useless and what isn't. T-Rexaur population going down? That's important to know. "WHAT COULD BE GOING ON?!?!?!" isn't - you can either report what happened, or go actually try and find a reason.
"Is it okay to judge somebody by their sponsor?" isn't news, and neither is Chessy's opinion of what sponsor is the best. Neither is Souji being out with some older guy. Or "things happened at the dance".
I guess there's a reason the editor didn't attach their name to it...
It seems to have been written in haste and with little thought--unprofessional, yes, though perhaps not entirely useless. Were it more streamlined and less prone to exaggeration, I would see little issue with its inclusion. The news of the clubs in particular was of interest to me.
Not entirely useless, but ... it seems like the kind of thing I would have seen at school, before I came here to Balamb Garden. Worse, actually. I expected things to be ... better when I got here.
unfortunately. rumour and scaremongering i believe is something most people enjoy doing back home. it is quite annoying, especially when you are the one they are talking about.

Really it's just one, mostly harmless section in the newsletter. It shouldn't be that much of a big deal, should it?
