[ Raven only arrived recently, and still doesn't know what to do with herself. Her days thus far have consisted of aimless walking around the Garden, choosing her classes, eating, sleeping, and refusing to interact with anyone around her if she could help it. It's getting a bit... tiring

[ In Jade's mind, knitting needles are equated to a tool you can use to stab ogres in the eye with. Or they would be, were she a normal Homestuck kid.

As it stands, she's not even sure what they do. Standing and watching. ]

Are you stabbing that stuff?

Huh.

[ A long pause. She's content with watching for awhile. Finally: ]

How do you start it?

[Pushes her current work to the far end of the needle to make room, and pulls out another ball of yarn. Initially wordless, she demonstrates how to make a knitted-on cast on.]

Like the knit stitch, but slip it back to the left needle. Do that until it's wide enough. Count how many stitches you have. Then start.

[She finally lifts her head up and looks directly at Jade.]

This is how Gaius showed me. There are probably books about it in the library.

[ Hissssss the library hissssssss. ]

Oh-- uh, thanks, chica. I'm Jade Strider, btdubs.

... [This girl's language is strange.] It's Raven. And you're welcome.

[She pulls the 'new' project off the needles, unravels what she did, and passes the ball of yarn to Jade.]

You can get needles in town.

[ Yes, she has a particular brand of english called 'coolkid.' It's pretty unique.

Jade holds the ball of yarn in her hands carefully, as if it might break. ]

Thanks-- I can pay you back or somethin'?

[Once she figures out how the thing works. It's a very different thing to leaving messages on the board in Sharance.]
