[There's really only one thing to do when you've been interdimensionally kidnapped and find yourself in a strange new world full of strange new people, strange new abilities and strange new... other things.

No, you don't run in circles and flail your arms around. That would be silly. Fun, but silly. You go to the library. No, you don't flail there, ( Read more... )

This is a library; you're being a little too loud.

[Instructor and authority voice is a go.]

Maybe the library should stop giving me reasons to be loud. [It's his coping mechanism for now, okay? Look at this. Look at this. It's a book on soups. This is a travesty of order.]

It's not the library's fault. It's the fault of whoever put the book in the wrong section. Perhaps you should find them instead.

That would be a blatant waste of hours of my life. I have better things to do. [And they don't involve soup. Or you. Go away.]

Didn't you know? The road to culinary perfection is far more arduous than any trek up the highest peaks of the world. Without a map one can only hope to wander aimlessly through the valley of despair for the rest of their life.

[said idly as she peruses the books in the psych section]

[Maybe he can glare the books into submission while he looks?] Somehow, 'culinary perfection' isn't high on my priority list right now. I'll be sure to inform you when it is.

How thoughtful of you. I do hope that you'll further extend your boundless magnanimity to include delivering this outstanding news while I'm near my fainting couch. I'd hate to go into a swooning fit and force you to step over my prone figure on the floor.

To be honest, if you're always this annoying, I'd just step on y-

[Wait. No. These are the people he's going to have to spend time with. Calm down.]

[Had been attempting to read nearby. Key word being "had."]

Perhaps it's a book on the various types of food around the world. Who really cares?

Shut up. There is no reason to be so loud.

It still has no place among the geography books. Logic. [And he's, uh. Pretty much going to ignore the rest of that and go back to his rampant book-quest.]

Who cares? Seriously, shut up or leave.

... I made one comment, at a fairly quiet volume. I'll submit myself for summary execution later sir.

[Back to books. Again.]

[Who's just sitting here reading the copy of House of Leaves he had on him when he got pulled into this crazy place? This guy. Whose shadow keeps on changing? This guy's. Whose voice echoes? This guy's. Looks quite a lot like the girl you ran into just a moment ago, actually.]

One won't get far on life's roads without a good meal, obviously.

I'll keep that in mind.

[...wow that one was weak.]

But in all seriousness, keep your voice down.

I'll keep it in mind. [Sorry, but you are disturbingly creepy, good sir. Not that Barnaby would deign to act on this, except for some suspicious eyeing and holy what the fuck is with that shadow]

Is it specific to the countries here?

Reply

itsnotbunny July 14 2011, 23:27:47 UTC
No, and unless 'Soup' is now a country, I don't care either way.

Eh, don't fuss so much. Easily fixed. [Offers to take the book to re-align it.] Anything specifically you're looking for?

itsnotbunny July 14 2011, 23:35:05 UTC
I'll put it back myself. [It is now his! To correct. Or something. Barnaby needs at least one thing he can fix.] Several 'anythings', really; unless someone bothered to write a single book on 'everything you need to know about this world'. Although that would be too helpful, probably. [Followed by a scowl that suggests this is all YOUR fault. Somehow.]
