[Action / Locked to Tom] Ms. Picky said I'm stuffy. :( Also how do I do detention?

[During her time at Garden Mae has developed a habit for wearing her hair in either a bun or a ponytail on a daily basis. Right now; however, her hair is back in the more complex braided-loop style that she'd worn all the time in Ferelden. It's not a big thing really, but it's her own little way of rebelling against the idea that she's stuffy ( Read more... )

[Of course she's not stuffy! Though Tom might have to choke on his words for a while before it comes out. He waves at her, standing straighter as she approaches him.]

It's no problem. So what's up? [headtilt. From the sounds of it on the BBS, things sounded interesting...] The gossip column got to you?

[If he has to choke on his words that's not very convincing.]

Oh, no the gossip column did not involve me directly. [At least he's seen the post so should know a little bit about what's going on.]

How do I maintain my position as an instructor without alienating the cadets? [She tugs at a stray strand of her hair.]

One of them started calling me Stuffy Britches. [Another pause, Maker does she feel silly right now.]

I'm not actually stuffy, am I?

[He's a friend after all, wouldn't he know better than a stranger she's never talked to before?]

[That's certainly a loaded question. Tom pauses for a moment, opening his mouth to say something before hastily clamping it shut.]

I wouldn't have said that... dignified, maybe, but not stuffy. [It's all in the connotation!] It's just something students say to get their teachers all riled up; trust me, I've been in school long enough to know that much.

There's not really much you can do if it's like, a discipline issue. You're just doing your job. They can disapprove of it - cause they're students - but ultimately, you were doing the right thing... right?

[Granted, he has a rough idea of the situation, but absolutely none of the details.]

If I didn't know any better I'd think that's just a nicer way of saying the same thing. [That gets a wry smile from Mae.] That so? I'll try to remember that if something like this happens again. Thanks.

They seemed to feel that I was over-reacting. It's not just another case of things being different here than what I'm used to is it?

[She's going off the assumption that he knows what's going on, she'd probably be a little clearer if she knew it was otherwise.]
