Killing the Elephant

Right now, someone I care about has an elephant in their life. I've offered my assistance more than once to help them dispose of said elephant... but they refuse to deal with it. Oh, they acknowledge that the elephant is there, so they aren't in total denial... but every time I bring up the possibility of *DOING* something about the elephant, they give me a laundry list of reasons why they "simply can't" deal with the issue.

Bullshit. They're just scared of dealing with it. But I can't deal with the elephant for them. Support them, yes... but not deal with it.

~smiles~ Thank you. This is one of those extremely rare moments in my life where I am actually proud to be the person I am. And it's an "all-encompassing" proud, not just proud of how I managed to handle the situation.

When elephant is not yours, it is hard to help the one who it belongs to if they are not willing to meet you half-way. Sometimes getting them to do so requires going about it a different way. This, of course, requires a different perspective. Like the saying goes, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
