TiVo, I have betrayed you, but I'm coming back!

Week one with HDTV is great... most of the time. The picture quality really is gorgeous. Though I could easily put in my DVD, I got a kick out of watching "33" (and even "Litmus") in hi-def yesterday. I keep exclaiming aloud, "It's so pretty!", for even shows I'd normally ignore. Can't wait until S4 of Galactica airs in six weeks ( Read more... )

I so love Tivo, that my DirectTivo is still here even though I want HD, because the DirectTV HD receivers all use their DVR. I'd rather skip HD than to lose the interface I prefer.

I hear ya. The generic DVRs are so popular that I figured, hey, maybe I'm just overrating the TiVo. Now that I have experience with one, I realize my beloved box really is FAR superior.

Oooh! What's the hack for the 30-second skip? I agree that the RW/FF shit blows.

This page has that and some other ways to customize the remote. And yeah, I just wish the RW/FF was more intuitive. *sigh*

I have many of the exact same complaints about the new Charter DVR that replaced my MoxiBox. The lack of automatic rewind when fastforwarding at high speeds kills me every time - how could they possibly expect us to move that fast?!

Indeed! The great thing about TiVo is that if you hit the play button as soon as you see the program has resumed, it'll skip back a few seconds so that you're almost exactly at the right point. And if you still miss it, just hit the instant replay button. But this Comcast DVR? Ugh, no. (And it's probably the same as the Charter one. I had Charter until about a year ago, and I miss it. Though they're probably not much better than Comcast, all told.)

I hate the Comcast DVR. I must know the hack for the 30-second skip! Even if my brother, recognized king of the buttons, is in charge of fast-forwarding, we often have to rewind back some time to catch up to where we were supposed to be.

Have you noticed that the fast forward is faster for 30 minute shows than for hour plus, and that it speeds up at the end of a show? It's so frustrating!

Also, all your links this post are awesome- of course, they always are.

Here you go!

Even so, the 30-second skip just means you have to gauge the number of commercials. I hardly ever used mine on my TiVo remote. I'd give it up if I could just get a damn instant replay button, which would solve many of these problems. Ugh!

My serial comma use is totally dependent on my beta. In fact, my comma use in general is dependent on my beta. **g**

Hee! I'll admit I tend to overuse commas. More annoying, though, is when (fic) writers misuse semicolons. If ya don't know how to use one, just don't bother!

Oh, and never mind re: the resume. I think I've got it all sorted out. :)
