Things I've bought that I love.

(Subject line with apologies to Mindy Kaling's fantabulous blog.)

1. Merona Athena Mesh Shoes: I've always liked Mary Janes, but I never wear them because I look too silly in them. Despite that, I bought these at Target a couple of weeks ago, and I *love* them. The vaguely athletic style makes them look trendy and cute, but they're also great ( Read more... )

I just bought the pumpkin bread mix today. Glad to know it's good! The last mix I tried was...not.

I'm willing to go with TPTB when they say they've worked out how all four fit as Cylons, for now, and wait for them to give us that explanation - which they had better do, especially for Tigh. But I'm still holding out for Kara to not be a Cylon.

Their mixes can be hit-or-miss, but I've been fairly happy with this one.

I do NOT want Kara to be a Cylon, but the avatars thing is the only real way I could buy such a fate for her. Hmm.

Hmm, very cool theory about the Final Five as avatars. The only thing that gives me pause is that Sam's attraction to Kara has been partially explained by his Cylonness by RDM. As though it's all been planned from the beginning. Though that isn't canon yet and can be easily changed, I suppose! Or it could just be that they were chosen long before New Caprica, and their switch just didn't get officially flicked until later.

In case you're getting that from me (only b/c I keep saying it over and over ;), Ron didn't actually say that in so many words. He said that Sam being so attracted to Kara and vice-versa was one of the reasons he made a good candidate when they were choosing the final five. I took that to mean they were attracted to each other because of the connected destinies, (plus the cylon/human pairings like Tory/Roslin) but it could just as easily mean that Sam was chosen as an avatar because of his pre-existing connection to Kara. It's interesting to speculate about!

Hmm, I actually think I heard/read RDM's comments on the matter and came to the same conclusion as you. But when you come at it from that different angle, that Sam was chosen because he was so strongly drawn to Kara would also totally work. And it may be a better route to go because it gives more credence to the Kara/Sam relationship, doesn't make it look like the only reason he put up with her crap for so long was because he was a cylon. Heh.

I guess we'll find out soon enough!

Well between Sam, Six, Tigh, Chief, and even (ick) Leoben, it does seem like they're wired for unconditional devotion.
That's it - Lee's totally #5. ;)

I've read about fans of His Dark Materials being upset about the watering down of anti-Christian material. This series is my favourite set of books from my childhood. Unfortunately I can't remember any of the anti-religious imagery. Being in grade school at the time, it probably all just went over my head. But then, I've also grown up to become a non-religious person. Hrmmm... Conspiracy...? ;)

I haven't read the novels (not my cuppa), but the debate is quite interesting.

The only anti-religious thing I think I can remember is that the entire concept of death was all funky.

Also, I think the Christian church were bad guys, doing all sorts of freaky experimentation on children. I actually found it pretty scary when I was reading about that part as a kid.

So with your BSG spec... are you envisioning something like a taking over of them.. like the epi "Return to Tomorrow" they "borrow" Kirk, Spock ... and Diana Muldar ... loan them their bodies and they decide to not give them back ... in the original ST or the "Power Play" in ST:TNG -- where Data, Troi & O'Brien are taken over by criminal minds?

I haven't seen any of the Star Trek series, so I can't really decide between the two. Sorry!

Hmmm! I like your speculation a lot. It would explain how the F5 are hanging out in the temple of five/space between life and death all godlike while still wandering around the Galactica with no clue for all these years. But what do you make of all this "If we're/you're cylons, then we've been cylons from the beginning?' They keep repeating it over and over so I feel like it must be important...

I think even if your speculation doesn't totally pan out, the Final Five are definitely going to turn out to be rogue lords of kobol or some form of higher being - it's the only way to explain the convenience of them all surviving the holocaust and ending up in positions of power. OR, maybe they're human avatars, but they were chosen from birth, and are being guided unbeknownst to them by the glowy white figures in the temple...?

Good point about the Temple of Five. The bit about "since the beginning" does screw around with my theory, though I suppose it could be the Gods in them - after all, wouldn't Gods be created first? Oh, I have no idea! Anything the writers come up with is bound to be too complicated for me to figure out, so I should probably just get into smile-and-nod mode. ;)

See, I have a feeling the explanation will involve "from birth", which is where the timeline inconsistencies really screw things up (such as Tigh's history.) This was the first explanation I could find in which they could be Cylons without retconning their past.
