Oops! Almost forgot this in my last post.

Atlanta folks: I have an extra pass to a free screening of Eagle vs. Shark (official site and IMDb) next Tuesday night (7/10) at the Landmark Midtown. Anyone want to join me? It stars Jemaine Clement of Conchords fame, and I've heard it's quite adorable. Starts at 7:30, but it's first-come-first-serve ( Read more... )

I do all my sound editing through the Creative apps that came with my soundcard - if you want me to trim an mp3 down for you, it wouldn't be a problem. I'm ripping and indexing video files for a BSG vid at the moment, so I'm not using the sound apps right now...

OK, I did some rummaging around amongst the freeware I've got within the various operating system iterations bouncing around on my PC, and before I used Creative Wavestudio to edit MP3s I used to use a natty little freeware tool called "Mp3Cutter".

Mp3Cutter doesn't look like it's had a new release or update since I last used it, and is now on version 4 which can be downloaded here. It's one of those programmes that does exactly what it says on the tin - load a .mp3 file into the cutter, select a start and end point, and then save your selection, delete it, dump it into a project window for mixing with other chunks to make new .mp3s, and so on. I never had any problems with it, but I mainly used it for trimming down the mp3s I was using for making BSG vids with - right up until I discovered the wonder that is a synchronization problem, and ended up encoding any mp3s I was using into .wma files instead.

Thanks so much for the tip, and for checking into this for me! MP3Cutter worked out perfectly -- took me five minutes to clip the file. If you're interested, here's the song that I wanted to clip from the Radio 2 show. If I ever attempt vidding again, I definitely want to make a Cylon vid to that song. Could be hilarious ... or just really silly. ;)

I'm glad I could help :) I've downloaded the song - I'm still trying to get this dratted video to re-encode at a file size I can actually upload, so it'll have to be tomorrow that I listen to it ;) Mp3Cutter is a very fast and friendly tool to use - it's remarkable, some of the stuff you learn to use when vidding on the cheap ;)

That's not out already? I could have sworn that it came out.

You might want to keep in mind that some sneak previews involves searches and metal detectors. You know, just so you're not totally surprised. It was like an airport when I went to see Hairspray. Crazy. (The family behind me in the line-up refused a search and weren't allowed into the theater. They made a big noise about it.)
