The year in fic.

One of the amusing side-effects of Adderall is that it makes me want to clean. Given my usual tendency toward mess, that alone is worth the price of the prescription. (Amusing aside: did you know that the generic version of Adderall is simply called "Amphetamine Salts"? I have prescription speed! Whee!) It also helped me sit through TWO movies ( Read more... )

I saw this the other day, but sarmoti beat me to the linking. Hmph.

*WIN*

I am very much looking forward to seeing Children of Men. I knew basically nothing about it until they showed that promo during BSG and then I was totally compelled by the premise.

Also, with all these links so handy right here, I may just have to go back and read all your fics again! :)

Hmph. I had it bookmarked first! (Though yes, you win.)

I was really intrigued by the premise, and while the movie was quite good, I do wish they'd done a bit more with the overall concept. Can't really say more without spoiling it.

And yay! Hope you like rereading them. :)

Thanks for the advice! That's an idea, though I'd hate having to re-join over and over. Oh, and the yarn is actually mercerized cotton.

After a few more hours of frustration tonight, I decided to just frog the whole thing and start over, doing the separate panels joined with mattress stitching. No idea if it'll work, but it has to be easier than all that intarsia!

From the article: It’s as if there were now Three Ages of Woman: first Mary-Kate, then Britney, then Courtney.

That is so scary, because it's becoming truer every year. I'm in my early 20s and yet I can still ask, "What is up with children today?" I mean they have their Blackberries, iPods, and fully pimped out cellphones. I didn't get a cellphone until my senior year of high school!

But that's neither here nor there because technology is a bit more accessible now. But what worries me is that they ARE growing up way too fast. A few weeks ago I went to a Christmas party where the "highlight" was a bunch of girls no older than 13 (some as young as 7) dressed in ridiculously revealing outfits dancing writhing around to a sexually charged song. And of course there were the parents cheering and hollering the loudest. It was pretty disgusting.

Yup. I'm not the least bit surprised by your party story. I'm in my early 30s, and that whole teen world (which I see every day at work) feels so indulgent and bizarre. Guess I'm getting old!

I saw Children of Men the other day and my heart was hurting afterward. (Especially after that ambiguous ending.) 2027 is not that far in the future and Cuaron's vision is very bleak. I'd be about Clive Owen's age at that time and that kind of scares me considering what is going on in this film. *shivers...

Anyways, I absolutely loved this film. It wasn't exactly what I really expected it to be (I didn't expect to feel like crying every 1/2 hour), but I still really enjoyed this in a weird twisted way. And, I applaud Cuaron for really shocking me about a 1/2 hour into the film and still being able to provide a strongly supported film. (If you saw the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about.)

Wisteria, I'm definitely going to backtrack at some point and read all your fic.

I agree with your first paragraph, though I think that presented a small problem I couldn't quite get past -- I kept getting caught up on the logistics, and how the infertility happened so *suddenly*, and so soon in our future. I wish Cuaron had done a bit more with the more personal effects of infertility; using that one woman was good, but I wanted more breadth. (And yes, that one thing was quite shocking -- not the usual modus operandi for movies.)
