More blather about the Emmys, plus the Top Five meme.

Have I mentioned how much I'm loving the Emmys guessing game? We already know the top ten comedies and eight of the top ten dramas. More intrigue today with the acting finalists, which could prove to be great news for either VM or BSG, but perhaps not both. ( Which network got snubbed? )

tv - emmys, moving, tv - rescue me, tv - veronica mars, bsg

What I find fascinating about all this, and what I had found equally so when LOTR was up for the Academy Awards, is how much more mainstream being a geek is. It can be frustrating b/c I think that H'wood has embraced an idea of geekdom that is a bit at odds with the reality, but when Stephen Colbert can make a reference to D&D that D&D geeks can get on a popular tv show, I think we're seeing something that we haven't seen before. That BSG is even being actively cited as a show that deserves Emmy nods is a big leap forward. Neither Farscape nor B5, managed that and I personally find Farscape to be the best sci fi show out there. That BSG won a Peabody is certainly high profile. I wouldn't be all that surprised if, at some point, BSG gets a nomination. Maybe not this year, but if (and perhaps this is a big if - I've not seen all of season 2.5 but I've heard of problems) it continues to do episodes of the same caliber as Pegasus, for instance, it will ( ... )

All the Emmy guessing is making my brain hurt. I think I'll just wait for the nominee announcement and try not to hold my breath. :)

As for the meme....Top 5 "Final Moments" of TV Episodes. (As in the very last moment/visual before it cuts to "Executive Producer....")

"The Sopranos episode screening could be a 60-minute test pattern and they would still make the Drama Series nominee list."

Yup. Sounds about right. I'm sure The Sopranos deserves everything it gets -- even if I'm not a fan -- but the ATAS's near-fanatical devotion to it gets a bit annoying.

*nods emphatically in total agreement* And that's an awesome quote!!!!

Being snubbed isn't the worst thing in the world; just look at the recent history of outstanding shows -- BTVS, The Wire, VM, AtS, Gilmore Girls -- that never got their due.

Seriously. I have to agree with EJO that winning the Peabody award is a greater honor than any potential Emmy.
