1. This week I've rediscovered the pleasure of curling up in bed with a book. Now, I read near-constantly, though I'll admit my reading is usually in the realm of magazines, online articles, and fic. I don't read nearly enough books. But just this month I've finished four -- quite a feat for me! I read In the Woods, the first in Tana French's ( Read more... )

I will say this about Lone Star: I watch a lot of TV. A lot. Good TV, bad TV, cable TV, network TV, TV on Hulu, TV on Netflix, TV from *cough* the Internets, foreign TV, etc. And I like to follow pop culture in general, from gossip sites to upcoming movies to sociological trends. I love trying out new shows.

Yet with all that: I barely know the premise of Lone Star (There's a guy with two families and he's con artist running a con on one of them or maybe both?), I don't know who the star is, or the costars. I don't remember seeing any preview clips for the show, and I spend tons of time in places that link preview clips.

So, I hear the show is good (well, I hear "It's a shame the show is about to be canceled because it's good."), but if it's seriously barely on the radar for someone like me, then I seriously suspect some aspect of the marketing for the show failed, or there's some intangible element of the show that's not activating the ad-hoc engine of fannish communication and energy that generates awareness for other shows

"How the hell could these two have worked undercover? They're way too PRETTY, even in Dickies jumpsuits. Any bad guy who sees those faces is gonna remember them."

Exactly! They are ridiculously attractive and distinctive! I wish I could have enjoyed the show but like Covert Affairs, it made me long for the first few seasons of Alias :-(

I'm mucho bummed about Lone Star--it was the only new show I'd planned to pick up, and now...boo. I'm out of town and haven't actually seen the pilot yet--so I guess my busy life is technically to blame; sorry, Adrianne Palicki!--but it looks so good. It absolutely had not occurred to me that it wouldn't do well (especially paired with House; I mean, come on!).

Re: Undercovers, I'm breaking my own "anything J.J. makes gets at least a cursory viewing" rule, but the extended promo didn't do anything for me--pretty though they are. Ah, well.

On a completely unrelated note, I meant to mention last week when I first heard about it that there's a specialist horror movie magazine called Rue Morgue that has a six or eight page piece on The Walking Dead in it's september issue. There are some interesting quotes and comments on there, as well as more detail on the characters who aren't from comic canon, so it's worth grabbing a look if you can find a copy.
