1. All my knitting this week seems to have given me a touch of tendinitis in the middle finger of my right hand. It's fine when I curl my fingers slightly in a natural position, but I feel shooting pains when I make a fist or extend it. (Guess I won't be flipping anyone off soon!) I have ongoing tendonitis problems and my doctor recommended Aleve (or related generic) as the best painkiller for this. It *sort of* works - I have less pain but it doesn't totally go away, so it's not exactly a magical elixir. Also any sort of brace or glove that restricts the movement of your finger can be helpful. Also, yes, ice is helpful.

Doing stretches for your hand/finger can help too, but probably your doctor would have to tell you which ones would be most useful for the pain that you're feeling.

But as my doctor tells me the only real "cure" is rest. Stop doing what's causing it and it will go away after a while. Take breaks frequently so you're not irritating the muscle for long bouts of time. I hope you find something that works and eases the pain!

Try some heat on your hand. The hand treatments that I usually see at work begin with heat to loosen up/reduce pain and then continue with some simple range of motion exercises with putty.
