Star Wars part 1

May 20, 2005 15:23

I saw Star Wars: The Phantom Menace for the first time last night. It was awful. I mean this in a non-ironic way. It sucked. I told M I refuse to see it again without getting roaring drunk first: If I'm going to see something that hallucinogenically bad, I don't want to remember it.

No, really. It's bad. )

Have we got a Video?

I'm imagining that all copies of the Clone thing are rented or scratched, but maybe that's not true.

I'm mooching DVD's from a friend, so Lucas and Murdoch aren't getting our money for these rounds, but we'll be seeing the third flick in a theater.

Supposedly, Lucas hates studios and has made sure that Star Wars is only using Fox for its distribution network. Lucas is also planning on doing Fah. 9/11-type movies after this crap.

Here, I'll review the second movie in terms of the first: it's less boring but the dialogue and acting is worse. Everything else is the same.

Yeah, that about sums it up.

I feel sorry for actors like Portman and Christiansen, who are actually very good but still a bit too young and inexperienced to overcome the incredibly bad dialogue and direction they're stuck with.

Portman's in V for Vendetta. I'm actually looking forward to that.

Between the dialogue, the direction, and the editing, I don't think it's possible to detect any acting at all in Sith. It's the teetotaler drinking game - every time a line seems remotely plausible, drink.

Eleanor hated Phantom Menace, and she wasn't even born yet. We saw it on the 18th or 19th of May and she was born on the 24th; as I sat watching in the cinema, she jumped around so much it felt as if she was trying to claw her way out via my navel.

I watched the first 20 minutes of Phantom Menace and stopped watching because it was so awful.

Clones was okay.

The rear-widow captioning companies got a captioned reel of Sith in theaters in CA now, and we will be seeing it next week. Hopefully, this one will be better than Menace or Clones.

I think I felt Clones was worse because I found Anakin Skywalker insufferable. At least the little boy in Part I was tolerable. But a "I'm gonna be the bestest Jedi in the universe!" Anakin was just ... ugh.
Also in my head the movie title kept turning into "Attack of the Clowns" and we all know how scary and disturbing clowns can be.
