Livejournal Usability decrease - Now with response from support!

Oct 02, 2011 21:01

So, I don't know if anyone else is seeing it or not, but my Friends page is now missing the Previous Entries link. As it stands, I'm limited to only viewing the 5 most recent posts by friends. While LJ's been slow enough that I don't think I've missed much yet, having to manually search Friend by Friend for recent posts is...less than satisfying.

I've noticed the same thing. Granted, people who I follow haven't been posting much lately, so it hasn't been that big of an issue. But if posting started to pick up again, I would find it quite annoying.

Hey, look at that. "It's not a 'bug' it's a 'feature'!"

From my support ticket:
Your Friends page is subject to several display limitations, which are described at [http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=219]. In particular, your Friends page will only display entries that have been posted within the past two weeks and will not display more than 1000 entries. You can view your friends' older entries by visiting their journals directly.

Small wonder I find myself using G+, Facebook and Twitter more lately.

Yep. And I'll probably be phasing out my usage of LJ as more people end up on G+.

Sad. I liked LJ's ability to handle long blocks of text, which Facebook and Twitter actively discourage. I liked that my LJ could exist for a different audience than my FB. I liked that LJ wasn't harvesting data the way FB and Google+ do.

This new inconvenience on the Friends page and the sudden disappearance of the tables from the rich text editor combined with the overall lack of LJ traffic have me giving serious thought to ending the endeavor.

It's not just the 5 most recent posts, either. It's the 5 most recent posts within some certain date range, which means at the moment, mine is showing this one, janet_lin's from the 5th, and nothing else.
