New Year and Me

Christmas round my brother's house saw my sister-in-law, Annie, absolutely triumph as a domestic goddess. Turkey, proper roasties, spicy cranberry and bread sauces, salmon en croute, parmesan parsnips... mmmmmmmmm ( Read more... )

Sweetie, this brought tears to my eyes. I still miss my mum, even though it was 6 years ago now. There comes a time when the pain isn't as harsh, it changes to something bittersweet and more bearable. Then you remember things more easily. I find myself telling my friends stories from time to time, or imparting words of wisdom that it turns out was stuff my mum said to me.

Hang in there hun and know we are thinking of you xxx

I'm reflecting on 2011 as well, so I have an appreciation of the position you're dwelling on. I lost my son in January. I attended his very emotional funeral in February. Everything that's happened this year - and there have been some great times as well - has been coloured by that loss. As I sit here typing, with Isaac's little bears close by I can only think of two things: (1) that if Sharon had held on just a few more weeks, we would not be parents to a little boy, rather than dwelling on a parenthood we long for but increasingly can't have... and (2) whatever happened to us, we can't change it. We can only look forward. I'm really glad you ended your posting positively; neither one of us can look back on 2011 with much fondness but we can both do ourselves - and those we miss - proud in 2012. Love to you and Neil. Happy New Year X
