with the grateful dead we used to sit around and guess from the *sound* "what year', and was it 'spring summer or fall tour?' and even though there is so much improvisation i have learned to expect certain types of exploration in the music.
i love how you describe the physical sensation when the music is *that* good, no matter who it is. i wonder if there is a cumulative long term impact of something so magical and glorious? the trumpet in the messiah "the trumpet shall sound". yikes, that makes me soar. :)

we used to listen to tell the beates voices apart too. and-keeping in mind i'm in my 40's.....i remember listening to rubber soul and we were just amazed to be able to hear them breathing.....;)
