Oh, I love this. Your Martha is so utterly gorgeous, but also heartbreaking.

...and when had her son gotten so ridiculously big and protective and capable of enveloping his mother in his grasp, he was only a child, a little boy, a little boy running around the apartment playing at make-believe like his mother...
This entire paragraph had me tearing up. The way you've written her emotions so tangibly is so wonderful, and then to balance it with the humour towards the end is just brilliant, and so utterly them. Great job :)

Oh man, you have Martha so down. I love the way she parses everything through stage metaphors and can't ever quite forget that art is meant to imitate life, so it's good to pay attention to life. I love this very, very much.
