Cadfael plotbunnies

Getting enamored in a - relatively - new fandom is always dangerous. My plotbunnies are multiplying at a truly alarming speed. As is I wouldn't have at least two dozen unfinished WIPs in at least half a dozen other fandoms. But the muses are capricious creatures. They do what they will. Consequently, I've got already five Cadfael-related ( Read more... )

It's tempting, isn't it? One day, I'm gonna write that story. Once I've finished at least a couple of my never-ending WIPs. *g*

Actually, writing a story so closely related to one of the novels should be easier, non?

Possibly, yes, because you can base yourself strongly on the actual novel and there is so much less research to do. I hope you do write this story, because it could be really, really interesting!

As for Cadfael fanfics in general, there are, AFAIK, fourteen stories in total (not counting your fic fragments). I listed them here. If you know of any stories that are not on the list, please tell me, I'm always on the lookout! :)

Thanks, I'll check out the stories I don't yet know, as soon as I'm back from Germany.

Go for it! The world needs more good Cadfael fanfiction!

Indeed. So far, I've only seen 4 pieces of Cadfael fic, one of them was utter trash, and a so-called original script for a (fortunately) never filmed episode, which was even more trash.

I've only seen the Yuletide ones, though they do tend to lean towards the gratuitous slash, unfortunately.

Truth be told, I actually like the Hugh Beringar/Olivier de Bretagne one, because the author had the taste to leave the whole thing in the realm of the theoretical attraction, after which they both returned to their wives instead of jumping each other's bones.

Of course, I still can't understand how Olivier could marry that spoiled brat Ermina Hugonin, but that's just me. I seriously dislike the character of Ermina. She's responsible for a lot of things, among them the death of that poor Sister Hilaria, and nobody ever called her on that. It would make an interesting story, though.

Oh, it has a new fandom, Preciousss! Likessss it, we doessss! No nasssty Hobbitsesss.

Seriously, these stories sound great! Very intriguing ideas, and I haven't read any of the stories you mentioned, so that means the plots stand on their own. As for ungodly amounts of historical research, you LIKE doing it. Admit it!

Oh, I do admit it! It's not doing the research that's the problem here - it's not having enough time/web skills to do the research.

Me want third one, Cadfael's life before he was a monk, because it is because of that life he is the person he is.

Thanks! :))

The funny thing is, this is one of the few pieces that actually are beta read. And poor Hays is a canon character, from "Hot Zone". But I'm very happy that the person who recced my story liked it.
