You could probably come in closer to shore and sit in the shallows...or maybe swim until you hit the lake.

But the lake's so... big.

You wouldn't have to stay in the center of it. There'd be some shallow spots you could just sit in and basically no current, so you wouldn't have to worry about drifting away like you're doing now.
