New Tradition
[Stacey/Janine. G. Tradition (hold your breath and count to three). For thelastgoodname]

My parents were having their traditional winter fight ("Thanksgiving with me, Christmas with you, New Year's with me --"

"Stacey will want to be in the city for New Year's!")

when I announced, "Forget it."

My mother cupped her hand over the phone, hissing, "What?"

"I'm going to Northampton."

"What's in Northampton?"

"Janine."

"Claudia's sister?"

"My girlfriend."

"Stacey..." said my mother in her we have discussed this and it is only a phase voice.

I closed my eyes. Six weeks. Six weeks 'til Christmas, when Janine and I would sit on her couch and drink eggnog and forget about family.

Refreshment Committee
[Claudia/Dawn. PG. Merry-making (a delectable holiday treat). For queenzulu]

I suggested yummy, festive Brussels Sprout Squash Casserole and Claudia stuck her finger down her throat. Then she suggested sweet potatoes drowning in syrup and contaminated with marshmallows, and I tried not to gag. Then I suggested we have a glass of wine, and Claudia agreed, and then I mentioned this soy dip that I like and Claudia suggested we have more wine, which we did, and by this point, to tell the truth, we were both a little tipsy, and Claudia was practically glowing in the light of the Schafer-Spier Christmas tree, so I kissed her. She tasted sweet.

Sugar
[Jessi/Mal. PG. Nutcracker Suite (and so are you). For sangerin]

I couldn't help it: I snickered. My lovely wife was making Christmas cookies, something she does very well (I was eating samples from the first batch while drawing miniature manger scenes on our Christmas cards) and listening to Leonard Bernstein conducting The Nutcracker Suite. Jessi was not quite dancing, but she wanted to. She kept time with one foot while the other crept up her leg, and was measuring sugar with one hand while Sugar Plum Fairying with the other. I stopped drawing to watch the spectacle, and sure enough, the sugar spilt. "Drat!"

"I love you, sweetie."

"Be quiet."

Frenzy
[Mary Anne/Dawn. G. fanfiction exchange fest gift-giving (it's not a secret anymore). For alixtii]

"Oh no!" I said, palm to forehead. I had four days to write a story about Final Fantasy IV, which I'd watched the Pike triplets play two years ago. Gift-giving delirium had destroyed my common sense.

"What's wrong?"

I looked up from my blank text document and gave my stepsister a rueful smile. "I have to, um, prepare a Christmas present for someone. Have you ever played Final Fantasy?"

Dawn gave me an odd look.

"Or do you know anything about pirates? Or Camelot?"

"Three of my favorite things," Dawn said. "In fact..."

"You requested them for Yuletide?"

"Um. Maybe?"

Machismo
[Jessi/Mallory. PG. Snowman (it's a symbol not a substitute). For chesire23]

"The triplets are mocking us," Mal complained.

"That's because they have no holiday spirit."

"I have no feeling in my butt, Jessi. My buttocks are frozen together."

"Give me five minutes. Please. You can just watch, but I," I curtsied and added a little flourish, "am going to finish what we started and build the biggest snowman of the winter."

"He's huge already, Jessi. I am convinced, I am persuaded. You have the most snowman mojo."

"So you'll be my girl? Even if my snowman has no nose?"

"Can we go inside now and drink cocoa?"

"We can."

"Then yes."
