This is beautiful and heartwrenching and heartbreaking and so very River, and a side of Kaylee we don't usually see (or want to see?) but which makes so much sense. Just a wonderful sense of poetry and language that has always been one of your strong points.

I'm really really pleased as always that you enjoyed it. It was great fun to find my way back into River's voice and head, for certain senses of "fun," and what happened with Kaylee kind of surprised me. In fact this was originally heading in a completely different direction (and a different pairing) more in keeping with my usual Kaylee characterization. But then this happened.

This is absolutely gorgeous. The contrasts between River (her need for stability) and Kaylee (her need for freedom) are striking and heart wrenching.
