At the bookstore today I saw a book called March [amazon link], which is Little Women fic from Mr. March's pov.

I mean, which is a stunningly original and creative concept and whoda ever thought of retelling the story from a more mature and adult point of view?

That is the most original idea I've ever heard of, for serious!Item two, my own ( Read more... )

You know, I want to say she's a mixture of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw in the bookverse, and a mixture of Ravenclaw and Slytherin in the movieverse. Only I picked Gryffindor for both 'verses....and I don't know why. O_o

I think she did change her last name to Honey. It seems logical, since she Miss Honey is more of a parent-figure than Matilda's own parents.

I think in both 'verses she's a mix of the four (though perhaps her loyalty, to Miss Honey, to Lavender, etc, is a more Gryffish loyalty than a Hufflepuff loyalty) - so she's a Ravenclaw-Gryffindor-Slytherin blend -- and the pranks she pulls in both 'verses are as clever, bold, and cunning as ever you please - but there's definitely a different emphasis in the movie - the whole scene at the Trunchbull's house screams Gryffindor in a way that nothing in the book does to me.

I don't really see Miss Honey as a parent figure until the adoption happens, but it's likely she changed her name; she had no particular affection for the Wormwood connection. (And I mean, seriously. Could Dahl have picked more transparent names?)

Absolutely. As far as I know, it would be the done thing. Plus, you know, Honey and Wormwood, very opposite things. ;)

Furthermore, helpful website about adoption in Britain informs me that you cannot marry your adoptive parent ...

*all innocence* I have no idea how that would be relevant to any ficbunnies, past or present, that I might have about Matilda... :p

Yep, you're probably right, there. I was just being dense for a moment.

I read March a while back, but I can't find a review in my journal. I may have been too lazy to write one up.

If I remember correctly, it was very well written but Brooks did some odd things to the characters and the backstory.

Personally I endorse cut-tagging spoilers on like everything. And a reader (of your LJ) certainly wouldn't necessarily know the icon comes from the final scene of the book, even if they *have* read the book and certainly not if they haven't. Of course, it's *Matilda* so spoiler cutting isn't a huge deal either way, but I tend to err on the side of caution.
