My S4 AtS Cordelia essay, for
with_character. Spoilers through "You're Welcome".
Oh, the Horror!
The problem with discussing Cordelia in S4, of course, is that it's uncertain whether there even is a Cordelia in S4. So much of her arc is open to interpretation and speculation, with the major question being whether and to what extent Cordelia controls her own

Also, she thinks Gunn and Wesley are gay. (This is a very, very important plot point, and not just Ho!Yay.)
Question, if that's cool? What's this mean? I kept waiting for you to come back to it.
I'm actually inclined to push it back and episode and say that it wasn't until Jasmine's conception that she fully controlled Cordelia

I know. Every time I close my eyes, I...

What?

See it. Something horrible moving deep down, clawing it's way up.

No one's safe. Don't you understand that? It's coming, and no one can stop it. I want to warn Angel, but the words won't come out. Why can't I tell him? I feel it. The thing in my dreams... It's real, and it's almost here.
It can't have been easy to pull all this together. You did a great job.

I will say that I think her changes started at "Birthday." While I think that she did have some attraction to Angel (heck, she did in high school too), the moment where she sees herself in the mirror talking to herself seems a little overly played. Also in the moment where Groo and Cordy are guarding the portal to Quortoth and Cordy kisses Groo as they are struck unconscious by the lightening bolt type thing, Cordy looks up at the portal before. And since the portal was CGI generated, I have a hard time thinking that was just a coincidence.
For me, it also seems just too incidental to not have started in S3 since Skip gave her the demon essence and also worked for Jasmine.

Those are always very important plot points.

Interesting. Will have to look for that when I rewatch.
Excellent essay.
Thanks.
