Wow! I mean really, wow. I'm slightly incoherent right now, my brain is still processing that. All I can say is that was a wonderful and gripping peice of storytelling. The way that you wove all the strands, all the characters feelings together into this complete picture. I especially love the way you write Illyria, you seem to have climbed right inside an incredibly difficult character, and returned to tell what you found. And the way you write Dawn/Illyria is just gorgeous. It's one of the weirdest, yet potentially most compelling pairings I can imagine. Thanks for this.

Yay, you posted it! hermionesviolin May 6 2005, 18:26:21 UTC
I feel like such a dork noticing where suggested changes of mine got incorporated :)

And then there are lines i don't remember reading the first time around (though quite possibly they were in the version i read and my fried brain just didn't register them) but which are very good.

"perhaps new amusement will arise from the coming of that which can open the gateway."
I like this allusion to the Key, coming a couple scenes after Dawn wonders what in blazes her part in all this is. Also, yay for Key as uberpower.

"She'd like to rest for approximately forever, but that, of course, is not allowed. She's not allowed to take a break, and she's not allowed to develop attachments, because if she cares about people, she eventually has to sacrifice them. She hates knowing that. She hates knowing that she's even capable of that ( ... )

"You remind me of somewhen I once knew." [...] The bitterness of remembrance is horseradish-unholy and forbidden to speak of.I remember reading this during beta (i really liked the "horseradish-unholy" line) but reading it this time it hit me that she says that it is forbidden to speak of it, and yet she just did speak of it. I mean maybe it's just that one is allowed to allude to it in statements like the one she made, but it just seemed to make the poignant homesickness so much more intense (we know my love for ripping the heart out and stepping on it). Illyria's so brash that we don't usually hear about how much she must miss everything about when she was a God; it's so easy to just write her off as missing the power ( ... )

Thanks so much for the feedback. It warms the cockles of my cold, evil heart. :) I would respond more coherently but... I lack the brainpower. But thanks so much, and thanks again for betaing. :)

And you are entirely welcome.

This is just incredible. Every sentence was just... wow. That last part especially... wow. I don't seem to be very capable of coherent feedback right now. Sorry :)

Thank you a million times over for writing such a great back-up fic! I really REALLY loved it.
