I'm trying to write genderbent!McKay, i.e., an AU where McKay is female (not a feminized version of the male McKay, but an actual, honest to God, essentialist female body parts and two X chromosomes gendered as feminine since birth woman), and have discovered that not only is McKay my Mary Sue, but genderbent!McKay is virtually indistinguishable

So, so, what's Rodney's girl name? It's gotta be something embarassing and curmudgeony. Like Ethel or something.

But is so squee!
McKay has refused to reveal her given name to me. She's really defensively feministy about going by her surname to everyone since she's spent her whole life not being The Girl in a field that is truly a man's field so she's got this uber-hard-edged butch act going. Which doesn't work at all since butch on girl!McKay works about as well as it does on boy!McKay... not very.
Girl!McKay/Weir/Sam/Cassie/Catherine/Janet orgy. TheirloveissoXchromosone!
*dies and goes to geek!love heaven*
*adds in some crossover characters as well*

But I'm able to sleep in. No wonder you have headaches...
McKay as a bonafied woman, eh? Can't wait to read it. And she's your Mary-Sue, huh? Well, since it's you, I don't think I'll mind that too much. ;->
I think she'd have something really classic and simple as a first name--like Jane, even--something that, like Rodney, wouldn't have made people think twice in Victorian times but make them think it's weird and old-fashioned today.
This idea totally fascinates me. I'm really looking forward to what happens with it.

Still trying to decide on the name, and cannot find baby name book to help me. Perhaps I left it in Ohio. Anyhow, I'm excited that everyone seems all excited about this idea!
Yeah... stress and sleep deprivation and caffeine addiction will do that (i.e., headaches) to a girl...
