From the cracktastic Iron Man miniseries Hypervelocity. Because that was a corner of the Marvelverse which was totally screaming out for crazy-ass high-octane guilty-pleasure cyberpunk. Complete with memories of the Avengers being hacked by a sadomasochistic goth chick computer virus named Absynthe. (Spelled with a y, because it's more annoying ( Read more... )

I flipped through HYPERVELOCITY at the store, but bought EXTREMIS instead, because HYPERVELOCITY looked way too confusingly laid out, while EXTREMIS is *pretty*.

For that cover, all I can say is that I'd *love* to have a story where all the Avengers were genderflipped, and that Beast's hairstyle looks fairly nifty on a goth chick, instead of *insane* like it normally does...

Only this one, actually--uploaded a batch of non-Iron-Man-related stuff which I'd just been meaning to get to for a while. I've been having a heck of a time finding source material...I guess my Google-fu is failing me.

Extremis *is* pretty--I'll probably pick it up with my next Borders discount coupon, just for the lovely art.

...damn it, now you're putting ideas in my head! I'm not normally a genderflipper, but there's something somehow very appealing about a superhero team where the only man is generally six inches tall with wings. (boy!Wasp would actually be kind of a less fucked up version of Tony--didn't Jan have the whole society airhead thing going?--and frequently teased about being the only straight fashion designer in the world. "How could I not be straight, with all you lovely ladies about?" girl!Steve...would be very, very butch, which makes a delightful clash with her '40's sensibilities. girl!Thor is just wonderful. girl!Tony...oh, god, I don't even know.)

And, yeah, that version of Beast is...a little too hot for anyone's good. :D

Something which occurs to me: Marvel currently has two universes running relatively parallel to one another. There is the standard universe, which has been around forever and has all sorts of cannon to get used to, and then there is the Ultimate Marvel universe, on which the movies are based. I can only assume that there is an Ultimate Iron Man and an Ultimate Captain America, so that you wouldn't have to deny any cannon to write your slash.

Very true! On the other hand, that's a whole different continuity, and oftentimes the characters are radically different...I don't know anything about Ultimate!Cap, but Ultimate!Tony has some sort of bizarre neurological disorder for which his armor is the life support system. (And a snarky gay butler. Because everyone needs a snarky gay butler.) So different. I don't know if their relationship even is as slashtastic there.

Wait, so the movie is based on the standard Marvel universe, not Ultimate? This is greatly surprising to me, and good to know.

Well, once the Captain America movie comes out (next year?), you won't have to deny anything :-)

The movies are kindof another alternate universe, like Ultimate, but not, I guess. There are certainly enough major differences, even if they stick to approximately the same basic stories and characters...

2011 for Captain America, last I heard. *tear* But I am looking forward to assessing potential movieslash!
