Tonight, thanks to a tip from un4scene, I was fortunate to see an extraordinary film at the National Academy of Sciences: Koyaanisqatsi - Life out of Balance. My mind is still reeling - ( Read more... )
This sounds so interesting. In the 90s there were inspirational videos with music and images of nature (OK, it sounds hokey now) that a friend gave us. When children would fuss, I'd put them on & we'd 'settle down' to relax and shift gears. One of them had hymns and we'd hum along and it was so soothing for a fussy baby to be bundled on the sofa, surrounded by everyone humming
It sounds like this movie has a more Energizing Impact - and that's kinda groovy to think about!
You might like it, Kia - it begins quite tranquilly with long scenic vistas, and progresses from its slow measured pace to a slighter faster one once machines are introduced into the landscapes, and then humans, and the pace grows faster and faster, until the flood of humans and machines seems overwhelming - yet it is still interspersed with slower bits here and there to show you Life outside of the frantic dash from here to there. It's an amazing living portrait of humans and techology within the landscape of earth.
My review is so poor. The words "breathtaking," "eyepopping," "majestic," "awe-inspiring," and others are all absolutely true. I really want to see it again, and show all my friends: that's how inspired I was but the film.
