The painting and sculpture are both gorgeous ( I will have to visit the painting with you one day) and I liked the little art history lesson... very nice as well. I hope you are feeling better...thinking of you and sending hugs.

XOXO

I absolutely love it!

I have a fondness for art that is inspired by or built upon other art. It's a little like fan-art. ;)

hee! Me too! (and the sneaky art historians call it not fan art but iconographic art. So that an art that echoes a previous work in shape or form would be iconographically linked. Just proves the point that a form of fandom has been around for ages. Its just been hiding under different names. ;P)

But I adore the painting - and such a wonderful thing to have attached to ones birthday greeting!
I really like her robes, and how the folds indicate that she is going quite fast - and I love how the sky and clouds give her wings. But most of all I love her face. the children seem so open and innocent, but she looks so determined and warrior-like.

Thank you! *big hug*

Ha, you're right, the sneaky art historians. :) So now I know what "iconographic art" is - thank you for the lesson! :)

I love your observations on the painting, especially: "But most of all I love her face. the children seem so open and innocent, but she looks so determined and warrior-like." I agree! Also, I find the little boy's curly mop to be utterly charming.

You're very welcome!
